Tagging topics
Farmers pick from two sets of tags when they open a topic on your boards: the platform's shared vocabulary, and the handful you author for your own project.

Two vocabularies
When a farmer opens a topic on one of your project boards, the tag picker offers two sets:
- Platform tags — authored by the platform team and available on every board in the forum.
- Project tags — authored by you, available only on that project's boards.
Farmers only ever select tags. Nobody can type a new one into the picker, so the vocabulary stays small and the boards stay searchable. On a platform board only the platform tags appear.
Authoring project tags
Open Forum → Tags and pick a project. Each tag has:
- a label — what the farmer reads in the picker and on the topic, up to 40 characters;
- an optional icon;
- a slug — letters, numbers and dashes, stored in lower case. It must be unique among the project's tags.
Label and icon can be edited whenever you like. The slug cannot: existing links and topics resolve through it, so it is fixed the moment the tag exists. To rename a slug, delete the tag and make a new one.
The page shows how many topics currently carry each tag, and the read-only platform vocabulary beside your own, so you can see what the farmer's picker will look like.
The cap
Each project can author only so many tags — a cap the platform sets and the editor shows. When you reach it, the server refuses a new tag until you delete one. Platform tags never count against a project's cap.
How farmers use them
A farmer attaches up to five tags when opening a topic, chosen from the platform set plus the board's project set; anything outside that vocabulary is ignored. Tags show on the topic wherever it is listed.
Deleting a tag
Deleting a tag removes it from every topic that carried it — the topics themselves are untouched. Check the usage count first: a tag with many topics behind it is probably doing its job.
Choosing good tags
A project tag earns its place when it names something farmers will keep asking about on your boards and the platform set does not already cover: a product area, a task family, a season. Keep labels short and distinct from the platform vocabulary, so the picker reads cleanly and a topic does not end up carrying two tags that mean the same thing.
